I was watching the news last night and was befuddled by all the people the world over that were praying for the Pope. It seems to me that if there was anyone in the world that didn't need people imploring God on his behalf, it would be the Pope. You would think that his own communication with God would suffice.
What were people praying for anyway? That he would live longer? Not even religious figures are exempt from death. In fact, given the general consensus among religious zealots that holy men are rewarded in the afterlife, you would think that the death of a holy man would be a joyous occasion.
There was actually one woman on the news praying that God would have "Mercy and Compassion". That sound like a prayer that you would have for a sinner or an atheist. If the Pope lead his life in such a manner that he had to implore God for mercy and compassion then he was probably doing something wrong.

In looking for a specific post, I've come across several I don't remember seeing!
Anyway, this is one of them. Just wanted you to know that I agree with you totally.
I'm always puzzled by people who ask, "If there really is a God, why did he let my loved one die?"
That question doesn't make sense to me! Does that mean, that if God loves everyone, he wouldn't let anyone ever die? And they complain about crowed conditions, as it is!! :)
You wouldn't expect to hear anyone who REALLY believes there's a God who has an eternal plan for us, ask that question, would you.
